A Beautiful Mind : Movie summary !!
A Beautiful mind: Movie Summary
2020 had given us loads of time at home and the best way to wallow in was watching movies. Netflix, amazon prime all these online platforms
took up a great troll that year. And everyone was dipped into the flavors of
binge-watching and movie time!!
One of the movies that magnetized all my heart and tears was A
Beautiful Mind. Produced in 2001, the movie is based on the life of the famous,
schizophrenic mathematician, John Nash. It is a story about the mystery of the
human mind showing the richness of behavior that John Forbes Nash depicted
during his entire life from being a genius to being schizophrenic and to
re-awakening of his Beautiful mind.
The movie commenced with Nash entering into Graduate college at
Princeton, where he is the best among the mates. But he never fits in with
those maths geniuses. He is a lone wolf
and enjoys his company with his roommate, Charles. Charles is a lighthearted
humorous friend that fills Nash’s life.
Nash did groundbreaking discoveries because of his clear, genius, and
innovative thinking. He later became an instructor in the college where he met
his student Alicia, and eventually, Nash and Alicia got married.
After their marriage, when Alicia was pregnant Nash’s
behavior changed drastically. At this
time their relationship is rocked and Alicia finally discovers that Nash
suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and the most important people in his life
are hallucinations of his mind. Oh, and just to add some heartbreak into the
mix, it came out that John's super close
friend and former roommate, Charles, was imaginary too. That's a kick in the
teeth because Charles was super-awesome. The difficult part of Nash’s life has
begun when he starts off his medication and shock treatment. This made Nash
more stressed and depressed. He stopped taking his medicines and ends up having
delusions again but Alicia, however, refuses to give up on him. She stands
along with him every moment, while her husband was undergoing electroshock
therapy and heavy doses of medication. All it shows that how important such a
relationship is to a person struggling to emerge from mental illness. All
thanks to the selfless devotion of Alicia and the continuing patronage of the
mathematics community, Nash emerged after a crazy life to win a Nobel Prize.
All through the
movie, John’s personality never deviated much from where it started but his
mind does change as the movie progresses, which contributes to an actual
portrayal of schizophrenia patients. However, there is some exaggeration too.
But it is so true that a supportive environment can lead to better outcomes for
schizophrenic individuals. The movie is a great and accurate blueprint of what
is to get going with a schizophrenia patient. The movie accurately portrays the
intricacies of schizophrenia to the audience. Winner of four Academy Awards
including Best Picture of 2001, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress for
Jennifer Connelly, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Akiva Goldsman, the movie
helps people learn to love, care, and a beautiful mind… is all that goes along
in life !!
