5. Learning life skills

Mein Se Hum Tak, Along With Her Books

Learning life skills

So, that cool and confident girl was now a big girl living her life by her rules. She was perfect for herself and felt, her life is in her hand and she can touch the sky. Good marks, wonderful personality with the best of family and friends, she was living the best of herself. Now was the admission to her masters. As always clear in her head, she wanted to continue with her master’s degree in biotechnology. And then she took a great step in her comfortable life. Admission to the hostel for her Master's.

Admission to the hostel was jitna exciting for her utna hi she experienced hell. She has always lived a comfortable, princess lifestyle, with everyone at her service whenever she needs help. Food, clothes, shopping, driver-driven car, everything she needed was with her anytime any moment she wanted. And now the hostel, though she entered with her own will, she did not have any idea what she will be missing.

The day she entered the hostel she met her old friend there. That was a little comforting for her. And was happy and excited. But as soon as she looked at her room, all her excitement blew away. Even her washroom was bigger than that. The smallest room was fitted with 2 beds, 2 almirahs, and  a little window to get some air. And that’s it. No table, no chair, no computer, no ac. No cooler. taking a deep breath, she kept her luggage and went inside the new room and met her new roomie. Shy and not at all in a mood to talk, she said hi and continued doing her work. JD, talkative and friendly, tried to talk but in vain. Adjusting her things in the room, she went to roam about. The mess had all the food but you have to take your own utensils and wash them and use them the same next day. Padhai aur ghomne ke alava kuch aur toh usne kiya nahi tha. Washing the clothes herself bhi theek tha, but washing them at handpump, was not her type. Not only clothes sometimes students had to wash their hair at handpump too when there was no water inside the hostel. No delicacies, no car, no shopping, no cell phones, she was all by herself truly now. Walking down the classes, in the hottest of weather, eating everything that is served on the plate, no tantrums, no one to pamper, she was all alone where even her books could not find her solace as zindagi jiyegi tabhi toh padhegi.

Slowly she started to learn, but this time not her books but life skills. How to adjust with people

around, to get up early to take a bath till the water is available, washing, cleaning, ironing, making up

the room, brooming, every skill you need to live a human life, everything she learned. And after coming back from the classes and practicals, if she had some time she could focus on her books. That was the time she learned, that her life was comfortable because everyone around supported her.

It took her around 2 months to be friends with students around and adapt to the environment there. After a long hectic day, she every day tried to finish her dinner early and went to the terrace to study. Prescott, Paniker were the books she had been into those two most hectic years of her life. Not completely focused because tiering day, she tried to make her notes to achieve her goal. After 2 semesters her life was now set, all her new friends, wardens, gate-keepers, teachers were a family now. Now she was well habituated of that place and was back to her Junnon of her studies. But that was the last semester, as last semester was the training. It was not easy to leave the family, the relations, she made all by herself, sometimes by adjusting, sometimes fight and many times just a simple smile. She has realized that life is not just all about yourself. You need everyone around to support you to be you and reach your goal.

Her training was the period when she enjoyed life with everyone around. She now valued every relation and gave time to everyone not forgetting her books. now her family saw her as a mature girl, taking the responsibilities, understanding relationships and their mind started to brainstorm about her marriage.

Her goal just took a back seat for her family and marriage was their priority.

But she never forgot her one goal ….

To be continued…
